In Manchester we have our very own champion of Menopause and the creator of the Manchester Menopause Hive

Introducing

DR ZOE HODSON

GP with a Specialist Interest in Menopause

It’s time to break the taboo “together” on menopause and spread the word!

We met Zoe a few months ago while our designer was creating her branding and instantly found her inspiring! She has since set up the Manchester Menopause Hive. Her aim is to provide you with up to date and evidence based information so that you can understand what is happening to you, and empower you to make the decisions that are right for you to navigate this phase of life as well as protecting your future health.

She has been a GP for over 20 years after qualifying from the University of Birmingham in 1996. She has always had a keen interest in female health and particularly those who feel that they have not been listened to or taken seriously in regard to their health.

Zoe was a GP Partner in South Manchester for 20 years before deciding to focus solely on menopause care a few years ago.

She holds the Certificate in Menopause Care from the British Menopause Society and is a member of the British Menopause Society, the International Menopause Society, the Primary Care Women’s Health Forum and the Newson Health Menopause Society.

Hormone replacement therapy, nutrition and lifestyle adjustments, psychological and behavioural input, all are important and we can help you to decide on the combination that is most likely to work for you.

She wants your menopause to be a positive experience under your control, the start of a new phase of life where you are able to take stock, acquire knowledge and skills, reconnect to your bodys needs and truly thrive.

She is hoping that in time the Manchester Menopause Hive will also become an educational hub for clinicians wanting to specialise in menopause care.

Over the last few years she has run many training sessions based around menopause for healthcare professionals and workplaces. She is part of a local Community Taskforce and is working with them on various projects to improve access to menopause information and care across Manchester. In particular there is a focus on those groups who are less likely to have received any support with their symptoms or have awareness about the impact that menopause can have on health and well-being.

Zoe is also mum to 19 year old boy, 14 year old wearer of stompy boots and general vocal forthrightness girl and 9 year old girl. her downtime is spent hanging out with friends, pigs (who all love a tummy scratch), making clothes from old curtains, knitting and bumping plants off (do not have green fingers) as well as looking after the menagerie of rescue dog, cat, rabbits. She loves all the facets, the medicine, the lifestyle, the psychological aspect and the fact that it very often forces us to reconnect to ourselves and dig deep! Thank you Zoe for letting us share your story and hopefully helping many more women around the world!
